Remembering Madiba: Mandela Day Celebrated

International Nelson Mandela Day events were conducted by Grade 5 students at the Indoor Stadium as a tribute to the great South African leader and anti-apartheid revolutionary, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, popularly known as Nelson Mandela. He served as the President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999 and was the country’s first black head of state. Mandela Day observance was launched in 2009 to mark his birthday that falls on July 18. The slogan ‘Making every day a Mandela Day‘ celebrates Madiba’s life and legacy.

Students presented famous quotes of Nelson Mandela to their peer group. Grade 5 class teacher Mrs. Sisira and the Principal Dr. Anas presented an inspirational speech on the influential personality of Nelson Mandela depicting various excerpts from his life. Students were also sensitized about the need of social service and the importance of hard work to accomplish their goal.
