The Oxford School, Calicut observed National Sports Day on 29 August, celebrated on the birth anniversary of the hockey legend Dhyan Chand. It was a treat for the sports lovers as students assembled at the Pantheerankavu bazaar and demonstrated their skating and other sports skills. School Principal Dr. Anas inaugurated the event. Admin Manager J Shajahan, HoS Sulbha Ahuja, PE teachers Ajnas and Omar and other teachers participated.
Dhyan Chand was the legendary hockey player who won gold medals in Olympics in the years 1928 at Amsterdam, 1932 at Los Angeles, and 1936 at Berlin, Nazi Germany. He scored over 400 goals in his career, from 1926 to 1948.
In many countries, National Sports Day is a public holiday celebrated to honour the national sports teams and sports traditions of those countries.
