The Oxford School Library Week was celebrated from 25th November to December 7th 2019 with various programs to enable students know about the importance of a library. Special morning assemblies were conducted apprising students about the significance of the Library Week. Various literary competitions set the tone for TOSC Library Week. The school library which was the venue of this exhibition saw the participation of students from Grade 1-7.
Various competitions held:
Grade 1 & 2 – Card-making competition
Grade 3 & 4 – Poster making & story writing competitions
Grade 5, 6 & 7 – Poster making, story writing & essay writing competitions
Non participants of Grades 3-7 were asked to write something about the library and likes and dislikes in a library, using sticky notes.
After the session, our Principal Dr. Anas has inaugurated the Book Fair put up by Bookbay which had books on subjects ranging from fiction, non-fiction, reference, philosophy and activity books in English, Malayalam and Hindi. The graphical collection was an instant hit with the students, who were seen flocking the fair to pick up some.
The school also conducted a book donation drive to which the students donated books generously. These were later forwarded to the TOSC library.
Library week celebration is a boost to promote reading habit among the students. It is full of various interesting activities like write-ups, bulletin board decoration and book fair. All these activities give them a chance to put their reading and knowledge very creatively and in innovative ways. It was a great learning experience for all of us at the school. It not only engaged us in several fun-filled activities, but also reminded us that books are indeed a man’s best friend!
