Vijay Diwas: A Salute to Kargil Heroes

The 20th anniversary of Kargil victory was celebrated at TOSC on 26 July in honour of the Kargil War Heroes. In 1999, on this day, after the successful Operation Vijay, India took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistan, commemorating the day as ‘Vijay Diwas’ ever since.

The infiltration of Pakistani soldiers disguised as Kashmiri militants to the Kargil area and along the Line of Control (LoC) triggered the war in May 1999, and the military action made by India was named as ‘Operation Vijay’. Indian Army built The Kargil War memorial, which is located in Dras, in the foothills of the Tololing Hill.
